What is Magnificent Mile Chicago like right now?

In this video we visit Downtown Chicago’s most popular shopping district for a walking tour and history lesson.

We go from the beginnings of Mag Mile Chicago all the way to how Michigan Avenue is doing right now.

After everything that has happened so far in 2020, as you would expect Magnificent Mile is not as packed with tourists as it normally is.

The Du Sable bridge links the southern section of Michigan Avenue with the northern section. It was built in 1920, before there was a magnificent mile, although the idea for this world-famous attraction was born much earlier.

In the 1780’s, when Chicago was still inhabited by Native Americans, Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable built a home on the Chicago River, near today’s Michigan Avenue.

He was the first non-native resident of Chicago. He sold goods like pastries, smoked meats, and furs — founding the city of Chicago and marking the beginning of the Magnificent Mile.
